OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea (AP) — A powerful U.S. B-52 bomber flew low over South Korea today. The show of force follows adversary North Korea's widely disputed claim of a hydrogen bomb test. White House chief of staff Denis McDonough tells CNN the B-52 flight was intended to underscore to South Koreans "the deep and enduring alliance that we have with them."

WASHINGTON (AP) — On the Sunday talk shows, Republican Donald Trump is leaving himself wiggle room on his proposal to impose a massive tax on goods from China, saying it may not be necessary. Meanwhile, Democrat Hillary Clinton dismissed Trump's attempts to remind people of issues her husband, the former president, has had with women, calling it a "dead end."

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City is seeing a surge in homelessness. Dozens of homeless people interviewed by The Associated Press made it clear it will take more than the expanded outreach programs announced by the mayor and governor to bring them in from the cold. Many say they would prefer to sleep on the street than in the city's often violent and filthy shelter system.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police in Indianapolis say a man convicted of child abuse in 2012 for forcing three grandsons to hike the Grand Canyon has been found shot to death in an alley. Police say they have no suspects.

VENTNOR, N.J. (AP) — The father of a baby girl whose mother allegedly rolled over onto her while under the influence of drugs says the child has died. The seven-month-old daughter had been found unconscious at her mother's New Jersey home on Jan. 3. The mother remains jailed on $100,000 cash bail.
