BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Public Health Commission has awarded $100,000 in grants to four community health centers to address healthy eating.
The project will target 23 housing developments and is expected to reach up to 27,000 public housing residents.
The four centers to receive the grants are Whittier Street Health Center in Roxbury, the Sound End Community Health Center, Upham's Corner Health Center in Dorchester and Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center.
Each center will choose among a set of strategies such as increasing access to healthy foods through on-site community gardens and fresh food vendors, developing a video in which residents share their ideas for healthy eating on limited budgets and more. Residents of the Boston Housing Authority have prioritized access to healthy and affordable food as an area for action.
