MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican law enforcement official confirms that drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was captured at a motel in his home state of Sinaloa. Mexico's Navy earlier said that marines had seized an arsenal of weapons belonging to Guzman and his associates in a house nearby. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says it's "extremely pleased" with the recapture of Guzman, who escaped from a maximum-security prison six months ago.

NEW YORK (AP) — Friday couldn't come soon enough on Wall Street, where the stock market has finished up its worst week since 2011. Plunging oil prices, and concerns about a slowdown in China's economy, helped drive stocks downward again today. The Dow lost another 167 points to finish at 16,346. The S&P fell 21 points and the Nasdaq composite lost 45.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Despite weakness in economies overseas -- and particularly in China -- the latest jobs report suggests that the U.S. economy is growing solidly. The report shows that employers added 292,000 jobs in December -- nearly 100,000 more than analysts had been expecting. And job growth was stronger than initially reported in October and November. Today's solid report could make it more likely that the Federal Reserve will further raise interest rates -- possibly at the next meeting in March.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans don't have enough votes to override President Barack Obama's veto of legislation repealing his health care law -- but they've scheduled a repeal vote in the House for January 26th. House Speaker Paul Ryan says Republicans will take the process "all the way to the end under the Constitution." Republican lawmakers have argued that the law is costly and doesn't work. But in his veto message to Congress today, Obama He said the law has made health care "more affordable, more attainable and more patient-centered." And, he added, "it is working."

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — If nobody wins tomorrow night's record-high Powerball jackpot -- we could be looking for the first lottery billionaire in the next one. Sales for Powerball tickets are breaking records, and the jackpot has already grown to $800 million. Officials estimate that about 65 percent of the possible number combinations will have been bought before tomorrow night's drawing.
