SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Washoe County prosecutors have refiled a first-degree murder charge against a man who was accused of killing a 57-year-old Sparks woman in 2005 but never went to trial.
The district attorney's office says 37-year-old Robert J. Ramirez was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the death of Charlotte Szczepkowski.
The original murder charge was dropped in 2006 due to a lack of evidence.
Police found Szczepkowski dead on the floor of her Sparks living room in October 2005 along with her dead dog.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reported (http://tinyurl.com/jto8qxr) that Ramirez and his former girlfriend had met Szczepkowski at a church food bank and moved in with her.
The girlfriend told police that Ramirez told her he fought with Szczepkowski and might have killer her, but the denied that.
