DRAPER, Utah (AP) — A Utah couple says their 10-year-old son wasn't allowed in the IKEA play area because he has cerebral palsy.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1JwJvFD ) that when the Harper family, from Herriman, went to the Swedish furniture store in Draper on Saturday an employee told Crystal Harper her son wasn't allowed inside the Smaland play area. She says a manager also said her son could not go play.
The 10-year-old uses a wheelchair and a reverse walker to help get him around. Harper says the employee said IKEA staff cannot provide one-on-one care to children and could not help her son out of his wheelchair. She was not allowed in the area either.
IKEA said in a statement that only children and authorized employees are allowed in the playroom to ensure safety.
