LAS VEGAS (AP) — Testimony begins today in the trial of a former storefront church pastor and international fugitive accused of sexually assaulting girls in his Las Vegas-area congregation under the guise of counseling. Otis Holland, who was known to his United Faith Church congregation as "Reverend Otis," is facing life in prison on charges that he abused girls as young as 7. Holland is charged with 17 felonies.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — No fire was found after a sprinkler went off at a restaurant in the Cosmopolitan hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. The Clark County Fire Department said it responded to the posh high-rise about 9 last night. A sprinkler above a wood-burning oven that smokes meat had turned on at a third-floor restaurant. Last July, a fire involving fake palm trees started by the pool on the 14th floor at the casino-hotel. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and it caused $2 million in damage.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nearly two years after Las Vegas police quit responding to non-injury accidents to cut costs and focus on reducing fatal wrecks, the department is going back to covering every crash. The policy change follows a boost in the Clark County sales tax from 8.1 to 8.15 percent to hire more police officers.
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Marvelle Harris scored 18 points to move into fourth place on the Fresno State list of all-time top scorers and the Bulldogs rolled past Nevada 95-63 in a Mountain West Conference contest last night. Harris came into the game two points shy of tying Carl Ray Harris. Marqueze Coleman scored 22 points and Cameron Oliver added 13 for Nevada.
