HONG KONG (AP) — It's not yet known what effect it will have on the U.S. and European stock exchanges but the Chinese market has taken another nosedive. China's official news agency says trading on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges has been frozen for the day after shares tumbled more than 7 percent. It's the second time this week that market "circuit breakers" kicked in.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama has spoken to the leaders of both South Korean and Japan after North Korea announced it had carried out a hydrogen bomb test. Obama reiterated the U.S. commitment to the security of both countries. International monitors are trying to determine whether it actually was a hydrogen bomb as Pyongyang claims.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-led Congress is sending legislation to President Barack Obama that would repeal his signature health law. But it won't go anywhere. The president will veto it and GOP lawmakers will not be able to override it. Nevertheless, Republicans say they are still fulfilling a promise to their voters in a presidential election year.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore says state probate judges remain under a court order to refuse marriage licenses to gay couples even though a U.S. Supreme Court decision has effectively legalized same-sex marriage. Moore issued an administrative order today saying the state Supreme Court never lifted a March directive to refuse licenses to gay couples.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Janet Jackson says she doesn't have cancer, but she isn't specifying what illness interfered with her concert tour. On Twitter, the singer says she's recovering but offers no further details. She says her doctors have approved her concerts as scheduled in Europe. Earlier, Jackson said she was postponing her tour to have an unspecified surgical procedure..
