(AP) — The latest storm to hit the Sierra has dropped a foot of snow on ski resorts around Lake Tahoe, along with freezing fog that caused dozens of crashes on slippery roads from Reno to Fallon. A winter weather advisory remains in effect through Thursday morning. The National Weather Service predicts much as 16 inches above 7,000 feet.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A preliminary hearing has been postponed for a 38-year-old man accused of shooting a veteran Las Vegas police officer at an apartment complex. Prosecutors says evidence is still being collected and provided to the defense in the attempted murder and battery case against Teag Lanier Fox.Defense attorney Kyle Cottner says his client plans to plead not guilty. Police say 52-year-old Officer Gregory Sedminik is expected to make a full recovery.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — SolarCity is laying off more than 550 employees in Nevada after the company announced it's halting operations in the state due to solar rate changes. The rooftop solar installation company says it handed pink slips to about a quarter of its workforce in the state. The company will keep some employees to service existing customers.
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Federal officials say U.S. mining industry deaths reached an all-time low in 2015. Preliminary data from the Department of Labor says 28 miners were killed on the job, down from 45 in 2014. That's a 37 percent reduction. Nevada recorded the most fatalities with four.
