SALT LAKE CITY — Welcome to today's From Left Field! Here are three fun things that happened in the world of sports Tuesday.

Deron Williams hits buzzer-beating three in overtime to give Dallas the win

Deron Williams moved to Dallas this summer after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets, and he's done pretty well in his hometown so far. Last night, he hit this double-OT buzzer beater to win the game for the Mavericks, then started a good old-fashioned dog pile:

SHUT IT DOWN!!! LET'S GOO HOME!!!!!! #DALvsSACpic.twitter.com/LL4jYWXJFP — Dallas Mavericks (@dallasmavs) January 6, 2016

Two notes here to anticipate your comments. First, while you see the clock change mid-play here, that's actually a mistake of the TV broadcast: there really were supposed to be 2.3 seconds remaining. Secondly, while some are calling his play in Dallas this season a "Deronaissance," it's to about the level of an average NBA player, still not reaching the heights of his Utah years. The Jazz still have four better players (albeit not at the point guard position).

Dirk Nowitzki gets rim-rejected, but also has a sense of humor

Do you know how much a sense of humor helps you in life? Also in last night's Mavericks v. Kings game, Dirk Nowitzki tried this after-the-buzzer dunk, and came up short.

But instead of hiding from it, he made a joke about it later on Twitter!

Yooo. That rim was 12 feet high... https://t.co/fr2SBPXvTl — Dirk Nowitzki (@swish41) January 6, 2016

He owned it! Now, the narrative of this point isn't that Dirk is old and losing his limited athleticism, but that Dirk is an awesome person. Well done, Dirk.

Olympic sprinter jumps up full flight of stairs in 5 bounds

This is one of those cool videos that shows us how crazy elite-level athletes are. Norway's Ezinne Okparaebo, a sprinter training for the Rio Olympics, is working out by leaping up these stadium stairs. Props to the slo-mo for making this even cooler:

I've tried this before. I can usually do something along the lines of three or four steps at once, which also incurs significant risk of face planting.
