MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A 23-year-old Moscow woman who admitted to exploiting a man in her care who died in her home will spend the next six years on probation.

Lindsey Winter was released from custody Tuesday, the Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1Uwg7Qm). She was sentenced to two to eight years in prison in June, but was placed in a rider program that gave her the opportunity to avoid serving a longer sentence if she did well.

"Ms. Winter you did a good rider, for which you are to be congratulated," said Latah County 2nd District Judge John R. Stegner when he decided to release Winter.

Winter entered the program after pleading guilty in April to an exploitation charge as part of a plea deal.

In November 2013, 67-year-old Lee Pohrman was found dead in Winter's residence. He had been living there for more than two years before his death, which officials ruled was caused by starvation.

According to court documents, Pohrman paid Winter and her fiance Charles Wright $400 and then $350 a month to take care of him and for a place to stay. A total of $57,737 was deposited into Pohrman's checking account between February 2011 and November 2013, according to his bank records, and $40,450 was withdrawn in the form of 72 checks written to Winter or Wright.

Both Winter and Wright were charged jointly in 2014 with principal to neglect of a vulnerable adult, principal to exploitation of a vulnerable adult and principal to fraudulent act to obtain public assistance, all felonies.

Wright also entered a plea agreement and has been sentenced to three to seven years in prison.
