SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea says it has conducted a successful hydrogen bomb test. The announcement of the nuclear-armed country's fourth atomic test comes after South Korean officials say they detected an "artificial earthquake" near the main North Korean nuclear test site. The confirmed test marks another big step toward Pyongyang's goal of building a warhead that can be mounted on a missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is back on the defensive as he deals with the fallout from a judge's opinion accusing a top city lawyer of hiding evidence in a fatal police shooting case. The city attorney is alleged to have purposely concealed evidence that suggested city officers lied about why they stopped a man in 2011. Emanuel hasn't specified what steps he'll take against the lawyer, who has since resigned.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — An El Nino-driven storm in Southern California has set rainfall records. The National Weather Service says 1.42 inches of rain fell Tuesday at Los Angeles International Airport, beating a record set in 1979. Another storm is set to roll into the region Wednesday.
LOS ANGELES (AP) —The actor who gave voice to Boba Fett in "The Empire Strikes Back" and played bartender Harry on TV's "All in the Family," has died. Jason Wingreen was 95. He died on Christmas Day at his home in Los Angeles.
