BANGKOK (AP) — A French woman died after being struck by a boat while snorkeling in southern Thailand on Tuesday, police in the resort province of Krabi said.
Marine Police Lt. Col. Anurak Parinyasatirkul said the 52-year-old woman was snorkeling with her family but no one else was injured.
He said police believe she died from a head wound that might have come from a sharp object such as a propeller.
Anurak said police traced the boat, which had a crew of Myanmar nationals, to further up the Andaman coast in Phuket. The boat's owners arranged to have the captain surrender, and he told them he was unaware of hitting the woman.
With 29 million foreign visitors to Thailand last year, accidents involving tourists in the country are not uncommon.
Two people, from China and Australia, died Saturday in separate swimming accidents at the island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, and 11 tourists from Malaysia died in a bus crash in December in northern Thailand.
