SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A dog that fell through ice on a Utah pond is doing well after being rescued from the cold water.
Firefighters say the dog was on a walk with a woman and a child in a Herriman subdivision when it ran away to chase ducks on a man-made pond Monday afternoon.
Unified Fire Authority paramedic Rob Morley says the dog fell through in the middle, where the ice isn't solid. The animal was in the mid-30-degree water for about 15 minutes before rescue crews jumped in to save him.
Morley says the dog doesn't seem to suffer any long-term effects, but the owner is keeping an eye on him.
Authorities say it was good the woman and child didn't go after him themselves because they also could have fallen through.
