BURNS, Ore. (AP) — One of the protesters occupying a national wildlife refuge in Oregon says the ultimate goal is to turn the land over to local authorities so people can use it free of federal oversight. Ryan Bundy — one of the sons of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who was involved in a 2014 standoff with the government over grazing rights — told The Associated Press yesterday that the protesters want to "restore the rights to people so they can use the land and resources" for ranching, logging, mining and recreation.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man has died in Las Vegas after getting into an accident while riding a Segway. KSNV-TV reports that police called Saturday night to Wheelbarrow Peak Drive and Craig found the man on the sidewalk near a Segway. They say he suffered from injuries sustained in an accident with the two-wheeled electric vehicle. Police did not release the man's identity.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say two people are wounded after an argument led to a shooting outside a bar. Officers were called to outside 1 Up Bar early yesterday found two gunshot victims with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses say the victims and two suspects got into a verbal altercation just before the shooting. The suspects are still being sought.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Google is expanding the reach of an online service that aims to make it easier to judge the costs and benefits of installing solar panels on household rooftops. The service expanded in December to analyze properties in the Raleigh, North Carolina as well as 15 other metro areas in Nevada and five other states. The service combines the eye-in-the-sky images behind Google Earth with calculations on how much shade covers a rooftop, local weather data, industry pricing and available subsidies to arrive at its bottom line.
