FREMONT, Ohio (AP) — A presidential library and museum center in Ohio has closed for a $1.3 million overhaul as officials prepare for the facility's centennial celebration.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums center dedicated to illustrating the life and presidency of the 19th president of the United States closed Sunday for the renovations. The Blade in Toledo (http://bit.ly/1OFnPmt ) reports the center in the northwest Ohio city of Fremont is scheduled to reopen May 28, in time for a weeklong celebration of its 100th anniversary.

Hayes also served as a congressman and Ohio governor.

Officials say all of the artifacts will be packed and stored while construction crews tear out and build new interactive displays. The center founded in 1916 hasn't had a major overhaul since the 1960s.
