IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A Fremont County teen will soon be heading to North Carolina to compete in the 2016 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championship.
The Post Register reports (http://bit.ly/1MOHUFR ) Kelton Williams, of Ashton, will head to Asheville, North Carolina with his family Thursday to compete in the first national race of his yearslong biking career.
The 14-year-old spent this winter participating in races in Utah, Montana and Colorado, where he was able to earn enough USA Cycling points to qualify for the upcoming national cyclocross competition. The race features courses of off-road terrain and obstacles that require the cyclist to dismount and carry their bikes at times to clear barriers.
In this week's race, he'll be competing against 15- and 16-year-olds.
Williams says he hopes to make it in the top 10.
