LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A former mayor of Preston is dead after his truck rolled down an embankment on Interstate 84 in a northwest Utah county.

The Herald Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1mRMM8c) a tire on the truck separated Tuesday as 58-year-old Jay Heusser was traveling west on the interstate. Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry says the vehicle left the left lane, crossed the median and eastbound lanes and then rolled down the embankment several times, ejecting Huesser and killing him instantly.

Investigators say Huesser was wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in the vehicle.

Heusser's two terms as mayor stretched from the late '90s to the early 2000s.
