ST. LOUIS (AP) — A rare winter flood has shut down portions of two interstates in the Midwest. Torrential rains over the past several days pushed already swollen rivers and streams to virtually unheard-of heights in parts of Missouri and Illinois. At least 18 deaths are blamed on flooding, mostly involving vehicles that had driven onto swamped roadways.

CHICAGO (AP) — A white Chicago police officer has pleaded not-guilty to murder in the 2014 fatal shooting of black teenager Laquan McDonald. Jason Van Dyke appeared in court today as his lawyer entered the plea on his behalf. Public outcry has been furious since a dashcam video was released last month showing the veteran officer shooting McDonald 16 times.

CLEVELAND (AP) — In Cleveland, a protest over a grand jury's decision not to indict two white police officers in the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice has grown to about 100 people. They have been marching on downtown streets and blocking traffic by forming circles at major intersections while they hold hands and chant.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Mexico is preparing to return a teen fugitive and his mother to the United States. Ethan Couch received probation and gained notoriety after using a so-called "affluenza" defense at his trial for killing four people in a drunken driving wreck. He and his mother disappeared weeks ago; they were found in the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say former "Glee" star Mark Salling has been arrested in Los Angeles for investigation of possessing child pornography. Representatives for Salling did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Salling is best known for playing bad-boy Noah "Puck" Puckerman on TV's musical dramedy "Glee," which aired on Fox from 2009 until this year.
