DALLAS (AP) — Forecasters say the threat of severe weather is likely over for the Dallas area. At least 11 people were killed from storms that spawned tornadoes and wreaked havoc on roadways. Days of tumultuous weather in the South have led to 29 deaths overall — those in Texas, plus 18 total in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico residents continue to deal with the fallout of a record-breaking snowstorm that has crippled parts of the state, leaving a trail of traffic accidents and shutdowns. Meteorologists say snow drifts more than 7 feet have been reported as blizzard conditions continue to slam central and eastern portions of the state.
CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities in Chicago aren't offering more details about the fatal police shooting of a 55-year-old woman and 19-year-old student. Police have said Bettie Jones was accidentally shot and killed as officers responded to a domestic disturbance call. Pastors and community residents have scheduled a prayer vigil in honor of Jones.
CLEVELAND (AP) — It's been nearly 400 days since a white Cleveland police officer fatally shot a black 12-year-old carrying a pellet gun. Now, the disillusioned family of Tamir Rice says it believes it's unlikely anyone will be indicted. A decision on whether to charge the officer or his partner could come any day. A grand jury has been meeting since mid-October.
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds say 1960s star pitcher Jim O'Toole has died at his home after a long battle with cancer. The team says O'Toole, who was 78, died Saturday. O'Toole debuted at 21 for the Reds and was 98-84 over 10 seasons, finishing with the White Sox in 1967.
