NEW YORK (AP) — Investors are hoping that January will be a good month for the stock market. Stocks closed slightly lower in extremely light trading Thursday as investors remained on the sidelines ahead of Christmas. The Dow fell 50 points. The S&P 500 slipped 3 points and the Nasdaq rose just over 2 points. But overall, markets had a solid week.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices are continuing to recover. U.S. crude futures gained 60 cents on Thursday to close at $38.10 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, which is used to price international oils, rose 53 cents to close at $37.89 a barrel in London.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ferrari is recalling some California T vehicles because of the risk of fire from a fuel leak. The model year 2016 vehicles were manufactured from Sept. 8 to Nov. 11. Also, Ford is recalling some model year 2013 vehicles because the fuel-delivery unit may crack. The models are Ford Explorer, Flex, Taurus Police Interceptor and Taurus and Lincoln MKS and MKT.

NEW YORK (AP) — The head of troubled pharmaceutical company Valeant has been hospitalized. An emailed statement from a Valeant spokeswoman says CEO Michael Pearson has been admitted for "severe" pneumonia. No other details were given. Earlier this month, Valeant Pharmaceuticals Inc. slashed its fourth-quarter financial predictions and issued a profit outlook for 2016 that was short of Wall Street's estimate.

MT. ARLINGTON, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey convenience store executive has fulfilled his Christmas tradition of working in one of the company's stores for the 40th consecutive year. QuickChek Senior Vice President Mike Murphy worked Friday at a store in Mount Arlington. Murphy says he's always felt he should work the holiday since many of the employees have to.
