RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency is moving to designate an abandoned, contaminated copper mine about 65 miles southeast of Reno as a Superfund site. Nevada has opposed past EPA proposals to list the site, but state officials say they are studying the latest proposal.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Interstate 80 has reopened east of Reno after a series of crashes on an icy and snowy stretch. The Nevada Highway Patrol says no serious injuries were reported among motorists, passengers and two troopers whose vehicles were involved in about 20 wrecks between about 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man awaiting sentencing in a robbery case will face a murder charge in the death of a 27-year-old man during a fight-night confrontation last May outside a Las Vegas Strip resort. Records show 23-year-old DeAngelo Mathews is being held at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas pending an initial court appearance in the May 3 death of DaShawn Antwon-Fouch Hawkins.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A seismologist says a magnitude-4.4 earthquake in a seismically active area of remote northwestern Nevada wasn't part of a recent swarm of temblors during the last few days closer to Reno. The Nevada Seismological Lab at the University of Nevada, Reno, says no damage was reported following the quake about 12:30 p.m. Thursday northeast of the ghost town of Vya.
