INSTITUTE, W.Va. (AP) — The search is under way for the 11th president of West Virginia State University.

The Board of Governors launched the hunt on Monday after Brian O. Hemphill was named president of Virginia's Radford University. His appointment is effective July 2016.

Hemphill had been president of West Virginia State since 2012. His hiring at Radford was announced last week.

West Virginia State's search aims to have a new leader in place in Institute by the summer.

Hemphill will assist in the search for his successor.
