SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — U.S. Attorney John Huber says then 10-day sentence for San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman was thoughtful and reasonable. Lyman was convicted of organizing an illegal ATV protest ride over a federal land decision. Lyman's attorney declined to say if he would appeal.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County officials will review three bids to construct a large hotel near the Salt Lake City convention center. Three firms submitted proposals by the Friday afternoon deadline. A county bid committee will meet on Jan. 14 to review the proposals for the 800 to 1,000 room hotel.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's unemployment rate inched down in November to 3.5 percent. That's one percentage point lower than Utah's October rate. The state Department of Workforce Service said about 51,500 residents were unemployed and looking for work in November.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Salt Lake City woman accused of bugging a diaper bag to monitor conversations between her ex-husband and their children has pleaded guilty an electronic eavesdropping charge. The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that prosecutors dismissed two other counts against 38-year-old Teri Anne Smith as part of a plea deal.
