SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football received a signed National Letter of Intent from junior college transfer Troy Williams Thursday.

Williams, a 6-foot-2, 197-pound quarterback from Carson, California, comes from Santa Monica College after one year at the junior-college level. Williams was previously at the University of Washington, in 2014, where he played in four games before moving down to the junior-college level.

As a freshman at Washington, Williams threw for 176 yards and two interceptions in four games, while completing 63.9 percent of his passes. At Santa Monica College this year, Williams threw for 2,750 yards and 31 touchdowns in 10 games. He averaged 275 passing yards per game and had a 67.9 percent completion rate. Williams threw only four interceptions on the season.

Williams is expected to enroll at Utah for the spring semester and will be with the team at the start of spring camp. He is expected to be a viable candidate for the starting quarterback position once he enrolls and will have two years of eligibility.

Williams appeared in an Adidas commercial earlier this year where he challenged NFL players Jimmy Graham, DeMarco Murray, and Sammy Watkins to a speed competition. In the 30-second commercial, Williams is seen running on a road past a Radarsign with a recorded speed of 24 mph.

The junior college transfer signing period is currently open until Jan. 15, 2016.
