ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A theft investigation at a Tampa Bay area high school led to police finding a loaded gun in a classroom
St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz told the Tampa Bay Times (http://goo.gl/PQNaoa ) that the Monday incident at Gibbs High School was under investigation, and no charges had been filed.
Police say officers were on the campus investigating the theft of a wallet when a school resource officer and a school staff member found the weapon in a drawer. The lab was occupied by students earlier that day. The classroom was empty when the gun was found.
Officials say the area was secured, but the school was never placed on lockdown.
