CHICAGO (AP) — Aldermen have pressed top Chicago authorities about the 2014 police shooting of Laquan McDonald ahead of a meeting with U.S. Department of Justice officials.
A hearing of the human relations and public safety committees stretched into late Tuesday. It was called amid fallout of the release of a video showing white officer Jason Van Dyke fatally shooting the black teenager.
The DOJ has said it'll investigate department practices.
The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/1QqRXIF ) interim Superintendent John Escalante said there's a meeting with DOJ officials Wednesday and he'll help identify a department liaison to work with them.
The aldermen's agenda included a symbolic resolution calling for a special prosecutor.
Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez charged Van Dyke with murder, but her office faces criticism for the timing. Alvarez says it was a complex investigation.
