MIAMI (AP) — A 13-year-old boy has been charged with stabbing a woman visiting the Florida nudist resort where he lives, authorities said Tuesday.
The boy has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and has been taken to a juvenile detention center, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Therese Barbera said in a news release.
It's unknown why the boy stabbed the 18-year-old woman wounded Sunday at the Sunsport Gardens Naturist Resort in Loxahatchee.
She arrived at the resort about 60 miles north of Miami by bicycle Saturday, expecting to find a campground, said the resort's general manager, Morley Schloss. Authorities have not released her name.
"I know from talking to the young woman there was no provocation," Schloss said.
The boy is among other children who live with their families at the resort, which runs a children's camp in the summer. He will not be permitted to return, though his parents are welcome to stay, Schloss said.
"We can't have someone here who has that kind of temper and inclination," Schloss said.
He added, "He obviously is troubled."
The woman was not seriously injured and has continued her travels "in good spirits" to Miami, he said.
"I'm so impressed with her," Schloss said. "The thing she seems most concerned about is the welfare of the young person that stabbed her and hoping he gets the care he needs."
