MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. (AP) — State police say officers in West Virginia fatally shot a stabbing suspect after the man brandished a shotgun in their direction.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. K.D. Horrocks says in a news release that the incident occurred late Monday night. The names of the dead man and the stabbing victims haven't been released, pending notification of family.
Horrocks says the Mount Hope officers encountered the man outside his residence brandishing a shotgun. Horrocks says he brandished the weapon in the officers' direction after they ordered him to drop it, and they then fired at him. Police say he died at the scene.
The stabbing victims, a male and a female, were taken to a hospital. Fayette County Child Protective Services took custody of a 3-year-old who was at the residence.
