LAKE WORTH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say an armed robbery suspect was shot and wounded during an encounter with five South Florida deputies.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reports in a news release that deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle early Sunday morning that had been stolen during an armed robbery the previous night. Authorities say 48-year-old Olie James Goad Jr. pulled into a Lake Worth shopping center and fled on foot.
They say Goad threatened one deputy with an unidentified black object and then kept running. The release says Goad was holding a large hunting knife when he charged a group of deputies, who shot Goad several times.
Goad was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Authorities say he's suspected of robbing a bank, a restaurant and a convenience store in a two-day period.
