SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) — Residents in South Jordan have begun placing decoy packages on front porches in an effort to thwart holiday-delivery thieves. Kroger Menzer tells KSL-TV that residents in the Daybreak neighborhood are placing rocks, old clothes and junk TVs in shipping boxes, and are also using surveillance video to stop thefts.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The pay-to-play case against former Utah Attorney General John Swallow is slated to come before a judge today. Judge Elizabeth Hruby-Mills is expected to set new hearings in the case. State prosecutors say Swallow and his predecessor Mark Shurtleff accepted improper gifts from businessmen in trouble with regulators.

RICHFIELD, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a Sevier County man left a brawl with man he's accused of killing before returning and shooting the man dead. The Deseret News cites court documents in the murder case against 39-year-old William Gene Muir of Venice. Muir is accused of killing David Rioja on Nov. 22 in front of Rijoa's house in Venice. Muir is due in court tomorrow.

DENVER (AP) — Marcus Byrd's free throw with 1.2 seconds left gave Denver a 69-68 victory over Weber State yesterday. Jeremey Senglin, who scored Weber State's last 11 points, made a 3-pointer with six seconds left. Byrd was fouled as he went up for a layup and made the first of two free throws. Senglin and Joe Bolomboy had 14 points each for the Wildcats.
