VIDALIA, La. (AP) — Concordia Parish's school superintendent has resigned, saying he'll leave the position before the new calendar year begins.
The Natchez Democrat reported (http://bit.ly/1Njxrpy ) that Superintendent Paul Nelson announced his decision at last week's school board meeting. No reason was given for the decision.
School board president Raymond Riley Sr. said: "He just chose to leave, and we're going to leave it at that."
Nelson, who worked in the district for more than 20 years, was named interim superintendent in May 2012 after the resignation of Loretta Blankenstein. He was chosen for the permanent position later that summer.
Earlier this year, the school board gave Nelson a pay raise but only agreed to extend his contract one year, rather than giving him the traditional three-year extension.
