SACO, Maine (AP) — An eighth-grade teacher is the recipient of a Milken Educator Award — and $25,000 in cash.
Michaela Lamarre learned of the award Thursday during a surprise school assembly Saco Middle School, where she's considered a "go-to" science educator.
Jane Foley, who is senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, says Lamarre is personable, approachable and knowledgeable and that her "motivation and integrity shine thoroughly for all to see."
Lamarre is the only teacher in Maine this season to win the award, and among up to only 40 educators nationally who will receive the prestigious honor during a coast-to-coast tour.
