WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed a measure replacing the landmark No Child Left Behind education law of 2002. The new law changes the way teachers are evaluated and how the poorest-performing schools are pushed to improve.
BOSTON (AP) — Boston transit officials are looking into tampering as the possible cause of a runaway commuter train. The six-car train, with no operator and 50 passengers on board, left a suburban Boston station and traveled past four other stations before it was disabled. No injuries.
CHICAGO (AP) — More protests in Chicago. Several students staged a "die-in" on the sidewalk near Daley Plaza. WLS-TV reports the protesters lay on the ground for 16 minutes to represent the number of times a white police officer fatally shot a black teenager. Other protests are planned for today.
DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler will pay a $70 million fine to the U.S. government for failing to report safety data. Fiat Chrysler acknowledged earlier this fall that it failed to provide early warning data to regulators over a period of several years.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — The 1950s romance "Carol" has landed a leading five Golden Globe nominations, including best film drama. Also up for best drama: "Mad Max: Fury Road," ''The Revenant," ''Room," and "Spotlight."
