FALL CITY, Wash. (AP) — Forecasters say more rain is on the way for the Pacific Northwest today and through the weekend. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has declared a state of emergency after days of drenching storms produced mudslides, power outages and flooding. In western Washington, seven people were swept into the Puyallup River from a riverbank homeless camp yesterday, but all were rescued. At least two deaths are being blamed on the storms.

CHICAGO (AP) — Calls continue for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's (rahm ih-MAN'-yoo-uhlz) resignation following his address to the City Council yesterday, in which he apologized for the fatal shooting of a black teen by a white police officer and pledged "complete and total" reform of the city's police force. Emanuel has repeatedly said he will not step down, but one Democratic state lawmaker is proposing a recall election.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Officials and public records indicate there was a deeper connection between the gunman in the San Bernardino massacre and the friend who bought the assault rifles used in the shooting. Syed Rizwan Farook and Enrique Marquez were related through marriage and may have plotted an attack together three years ago. Senator Jim Risch says the pair shelved their plan in 2012 because of law enforcement activity and arrests. The Idaho Republican sits on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's planned meeting with Donald Trump later this month is turning into a bit of a headache. Netanyahu has rejected Trump's calls to bar foreign Muslims from entering the U.S., and Netanyahu says Israel "respects all religions." Earlier this year, Netanyahu was accused of making racist remarks when he warned that Arabs were voting "in droves" in an election-day plea to supporters. Nearly a fifth of Israel's citizens are Muslim Arabs.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel says it successfully tested an advanced missile defense system. The Defense Ministry calls the test of the Arrow-3 interceptor a "major milestone." Israel has been developing the system with the U.S. The Arrow-3 is designed to strike targets outside the atmosphere, intercepting missiles closer to their launch sites.
