BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore police officer charged with manslaughter in the death of Freddie Gray has taken the stand in his own defense. Gray was a 25-year-old black man who died after suffering a spinal injury while riding in the back of a police van. The prosecution says Officer William Porter is partly responsible for Gray's death; the defense says Porter acted reasonably.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has apologized for the 2014 police shooting of a black teenager. During a special City Council meeting, Emanuel promised "complete and total" reform to restore trust in the police.

WASHINGTON (AP) — FBI Director James Comey says the two San Bernardino shooters were radicalized at least two years ago and had discussed jihad and martyrdom as early as 2013. Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee that investigators believe Syed Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, were radicalized even before they began an online relationship.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate has overwhelmingly passed and sent to President Barack Obama a massive education bill. It would return to the states significant control over school accountability and testing. The president is expected to sign it. The measure would replace the long outdated No Child Left Behind law of 2002.

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A homeless man in Aspen, Colorado, is at least $300,000 richer after purchasing a winning scratch ticket. Michael Engfors paid $10 for the ticket, worth $500,000 before taxes. A homeless advocate says Engfors plans to use his winnings to find his long-lost daughter.
