MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A new University of Wisconsin System report says nearly 75 percent of graduates during the last fiscal year left school in debt.
The report, prepared for regent review at their meeting Friday, found 74 percent of UW System in-state graduates in 2014-15 had an average debt of $30,650.
The report also found that 71 percent of all undergraduate students — 111,627 students — received some form of financial aid.
The report said 40,125 UW System resident undergraduates got $151.9 million in federal Pell grants, with the average grant totaling $3,786. State grants totaling $58.3 million went to 32,886 resident undergraduates, with the average grant totaling $1,773. Scholarships totaled $164.2 million in the fiscal year 2014.
The regents aren't expected to take any action on the report.
