FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A Clearfield man accused of causing the death of a woman he punched during a New Year's Eve party has pleaded guilty.
Alcario Jesus Archuleta-Valdez pleaded guilty last week to assault. He was initially charged with homicide by assault in the death of 31-year-old Bobbie Jo Barnett.
Prosecutors say 33-year-old Archuleta-Valdez punched Barnett after a fight broke out at the party they were attending. She fell to the ground and hit her head, but stood up and walked around immediately after the punch.
Barnett complained of a bad headache two days later and was taken to the hospital where she died of head trauma.
Archuleta-Valdez is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 12.
