ALMA, Mich. (AP) — Alma College has joined the list of colleges and universities being investigated for the way they handle students' sexual abuse allegations.

The Saginaw News reports (http://bit.ly/1YUFMW0 ) Monday the private college in the Gratiot County community of Alma has joined a list of institutions facing the federal Title IX sexual violence investigations. Others in the state currently or previously under investigation are Michigan State University, University of Michigan and Grand Valley State University.

Neither officials from the U.S. Education Department nor Alma College provided details about the probe, which has been open since October. College spokesman Mike Silverthorn says Alma is cooperating, has civil rights policies and procedures and employs a Title IX coordinator.

The Education Department has 185 cases regarding issues of sexual violence under investigation at 152 schools.
