2. "An Inconvenient Truth," by Al Gore (Rodale, $21.95). The former vice president sounds an alarm about global warming in this companion volume to the movie of the same title.

3. "Night," by Elie Wiesel (Hill & Wang, $9). A new translation of an account of the horrors of Auschwitz and Buchenwald, first published in English in 1960.

4. "In Cold Blood," by Truman Capote (Vintage, $14). A savage murder in Kansas in 1959 and its consequences.
