Celebrated Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti says he is recovering from surgery to remove cancer of the pancreas and expects to be back on stage early next year, a report said Monday.
In an interview with La Stampa newspaper here, Pavarotti said he had been discharged from hospital in New York a few days after the operation and was feeling "better, better, better".
The 70-year-old singer said it was a "very beautiful sensation to be able to go home" from hospital.
Pavarotti's Worldwide Farewell Tour -- consisting of 40 concerts celebrating the career of the great tenor -- has been interrupted several times due to health problems.
He said he was being "philosophical" about his illness. "In life, I've had everything, really everything. If it was all taken back God and I would be even," he said.
"I want to finish my farewell tour. I can't give a precise date (for the resumption) because I must listen to my doctors but I think it could start again at the beginning of next year," he said.
