SEATTLE (AP) — Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was not in uniform for the No. 20 Cougars before facing rival Washington in the Apple Cup.

Falk was on the field in sweats and a Washington State knit hat during pregame warmups for Friday's game. Freshman Peyton Bender took reps with the Cougars starting offense and was expected to make his first career start.

Falk was injured in the third quarter of last Saturday's victory over Colorado when he was sacked and slammed to turf. Falk appeared to be knocked out and was taken off the field on a backboard as a precaution. Washington State coach Mike Leach does not speak about injuries and tersely declined to give updates on Falk's status all week.

Bender was 13 of 22 for 133 yards and one touchdown in relief of Falk.
