DETROIT, Jul 21, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A Michigan judge has barred a bereaved mother from bringing her baby's ashes to court in a teddy bear urn.
Milton Lemons, charged with giving his daughter a fatal shaking, is scheduled to go on trial in August, the Detroit News reported. Lori Lemons wanted to carry the urn into court during the trial.
"There is a certain level of behavior that should be upheld in the courtroom; bringing an urn to the courtroom is inappropriate," Judge Timothy Kenny said Thursday.
David Cripps, the defense attorney, filed a motion asking the judge to keep both the urn and T-shirts bearing NaKita Lemon's picture out of the courtroom. The judge agreed.
