STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — A fire at Stony Brook University has forced students to evacuate from one of the college's residence halls.

The fire was reported Saturday evening in a dorm room in one of the 28 residence halls on the Long Island college campus.

University officials say there was no one in the dorm room when the fire began. It has since been extinguished.

A spokeswoman for the college said there were no injuries reported, but the building remained evacuated. She said students would be housed Saturday night in other dorm rooms on campus.

The 1,039-acre college campus is located about 60 miles from New York City and has an enrollment of more than 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
