RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Eastern Kentucky University has established a new scholarship for first-generation college students.
A statement from the university says students who will be freshmen in the fall of 2016 can apply for the Trailblazer Scholarship through March 1. Award amounts may vary depending on need.
The school's enrollment management director, Brett Morris, said the money would help first-generation students meet needs such as rising tuition costs, books and transportation that aren't met through other forms of aid. The university had more than 800 first-generation students this fall.
Morris said the scholarship will give more students the opportunity to study at Eastern. Students who are awarded the scholarship will be notified in April.
Applications can be found online at www.scholarships.eku.edu/trailblazer.
