MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The NBA champion Golden State Warriors are the last unbeaten team this season. The 8-0 Warriors are in Memphis tonight to face the Grizzlies, a team that has lost three straight and is just 3-5 on the season.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland, the team the Warriors beat in the NBA Finals this past June, has won seven of its first eight games this season. LeBron James led the way last night as the Cavs won their seventh straight after a season-opening loss in Chicago. He tied a season high with 31 points, including 17 to spark a fourth-quarter comeback.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The off-season news for the St. Louis Cardinals isn't good as right-hander Lance Lynn has undergone Tommy John surgery. That means he will miss the entire 2016 season as he recuperates. Lynn was 12-11 with a 3.03 earned run average last season.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts suffered a major blow to their playoff hopes yesterday when it was announced that quarterback Andrew Luck will miss two to six weeks with a lacerated kidney and partial tear of an abdominal muscle. The club says Luck was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over Denver. The loss of Luck means the return of 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck behind center.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Tracy Claeys is no longer the interim head football coach at the University of Minnesota. That tag has been dropped as the school has signed Claeys to a three-year contract. He replaced Jerry Kill earlier in the season when he retired for health reasons.
