LONDON (AP) — Pat Eddery, the Irish jockey who was crowned flat-racing champion 11 times, has died. He was 63.
Racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe, who worked alongside Eddery throughout his career, confirmed the death on Tuesday, saying "everyone at Juddmonte (Farms) is very shocked and saddened by it."
The cause of death was not announced.
Eddery is one of the most successful jockeys of all time, having won more than 4,600 races in his career, including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe four times. His 1986 victory, aboard Dancing Brave, is regarded as his most memorable.
Eddery also won 14 British Classics before retiring in 2003 and beginning a training career.
