Villanova cruises past Rhode Island 24-3

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Zack Bednarczyk threw a touchdown pass and ran for another to help Villanova cruise past Rhode Island 24-3 on Saturday.

Bednarczyk was 11 of 18 for 116 yards and ran for 74 yards on 11 carries. Matt Gudzak carried 10 times for 118 yards and a touchdown and seven different receivers had catches.

Villanova (5-4, 4-2 Colonial) went 60 yards on eight plays in the first quarter, capped by Bednarczyk's 4-yard run. Rhode Island countered with an 11-play, 66-yard drive, but settled for Justin Rohrwasser's 25-yard field goal and trailed 7-3 at the half.

On the Wildcats' first possession of the third, Gudzak busted runs of 23- and 28-yards on consecutive plays, then on the third carried 14 yards for a touchdown. Bednarczyk hooked up with Kevin Gulyas for a 7-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Rhode Island (1-8, 1-5) committed four turnovers and had just 208 total yards.
