RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — The president of the Palestinian soccer federation says the national team's two upcoming World Cup qualifying matches will be played in Jordan.
Earlier this week, FIFA said the matches against Saudi Arabia and Malaysia cannot take place in the West Bank because of security reasons. A new round of Israeli-Palestinian confrontations erupted last month, and the West Bank has been the scene of repeated clashes between Palestinian stone-throwers and Israeli troops.
Palestinian soccer federation president Jibril Rajoub says the Palestinian self-rule government had accepted the change of venue under pressure, but did not elaborate.
He says the games against Saudi Arabia on Monday and Malaysia next Thursday will both be played in Jordan.
