GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota says it's firing a police officer accused of possessing child pornography.

The 42-year-old Paul Meagher was charged Wednesday with 10 counts of possession of certain materials prohibited. Meagher, of Grand Forks, was arrested Tuesday night, after being investigated by the state crime bureau.

The officer has served with the campus force since 2004. UND says it's firing the officer for violations of university and police department policy and violations of law enforcement ethics.

A home telephone listing for the officer was not in service Wednesday. His court record does not list an attorney who could comment on the case.

Meagher is being held at the Grand Forks County Jail. His initial court appearance has been scheduled for Thursday.
