MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez has been named as the second driver for Haas F1 when the American-led team joins the grid in 2016.
Gutierrez is currently a reserve driver with Ferrari and will join Frenchman Romain Grosjean to give Haas an experienced lineup for its debut.
Grosjean is moving to Haas after four years with Lotus and 80 grand prix starts. Gutierrez drove for Sauber in 2013-2014 and has 38 career starts.
Gutierrez' move was expected as Ferrari and Haas have reached a technical agreement and the Italian team will be supplying Haas with its engines.
Haas F1 will be the first American-led team in Formula One since 1986. The team owner is industrialist Gene Haas, who is co-owner of NASCARS's Stewart-Haas Racing.
Gene Haas said he hopes the experienced lineup will be able to score points in the team's debut season.
